MEDICAL PROVIDERS NEEDED

MOCS Clinic in need of additional providers.

Are you an MD, NP, or PA who would like to participate in this ministry of helping provide basic health care for those in need in the Summerville community?  We are currently seeking a few new practitioners to assist.

About us:

We began almost 30 years ago as a local outreach ministry of St. Paul’s Church in Summerville.  About ten years ago the clinic was spun off into a non-profit 501c3 organization named the Medical Outreach Clinic of Summerville Inc. (MOCS), still operating on the campus of St Paul’s on Thursday evenings.  Our volunteers include many doctors from community practices, hospitals and Third Year Residents from the MUSC Family Medicine program.

We provide basic family medicine to adults with no insurance and with very limited income.  We do not provide woman’s health care (i.e. OB/Gyn, family planning, STD testing) nor pediatrics.  We do not treat mental health issues or pain management (we do not prescribe controlled substances).

We have our own malpractice insurance and we use a paper charting system (no need to learn a new EMR system).  Most of our doctors’ volunteer about every six weeks or so, Thursday evenings for about 2 hours at most.  Doctors start seeing patients any time after 5 PM.

We use an online provider scheduling tool (Signup.com) that allows you to pick your own dates, as few or as many as you like.  The system sends confirmations and reminders, and allows you to swap and cancel on your own.

If you are interested please contact Marty Thomas, Clinic Manager at marty@medicaloutreachclinic.org.  We just need your name, phone and email to get you enrolled and involved.

Please feel free to stop by any Thursday evening to meet the staff and volunteers.  Thank you.

Welcome Summer!

Summer is upon us here in the Lowcountry, as is the heat, and MOCS reminds you to stay hydrated.

As a cautionary note, remember to stay cool and drink plenty of fluids, especially water in these extreme heat spells.  Limit outside work activities to early mornings and the evenings wherever possible.

We are looking to increase our outreach to those we serve in our community.   We have been distributing information cards and brochures to many of our churches and community bulletin boards to remind folks we are here to help with your health care needs.  We continue to operate on Thursday evenings where many of our 40 plus volunteers are ready to address your health concerns.

We are still in need of a few additional nursing folks to help with Triage (taking history and vitals) and could still use another doctor or two.  Please contact us if you are interested in volunteering.
